# Overview

Pear Deck is the teacher-favorite instructional tool for creating and delivering interactive lessons on any topic. As part of the Pear Deck Learning platform, it turns your presentations into two-way conversations: students respond to questions on their own devices while you see every answer in real time on your Teacher Dashboard.

## Review Question Types

Pear Deck supports several question types you can add to any slide:

* **Text response** — students type a free-form answer
* **Drawing** — students sketch or annotate directly on the slide
* **Multiple choice** — students select from options you define
* **Draggable** — students drag an icon to a position on the slide
* **Number response** — students enter a numeric answer

## Start a Live Session

1. Sign in at [app.peardeck.com](https://app.peardeck.com). Choose an existing deck, pick one from Content Orchard, or create a new one from your Google Slides or PowerPoint file.
2. Click **Start Session** to launch the session. Pear Deck generates a unique join code for the class.
3. Display the join code on your projector or share it via Google Classroom. Students join by going to [joinpd.com](https://joinpd.com) or clicking the direct link.
4. As students join, their names appear in the Teacher Dashboard. When you advance to an interactive slide, students see the question on their devices and respond.
5. The Teacher Dashboard shows every student's response as it comes in. You can see at a glance who has answered and what they said.
6. Switch to Projector View to display student responses anonymously on the main screen. Use this to spark discussion without putting individual students on the spot.

## Use Instant Pear Decks

Instant Pear Decks is Pear Deck's AI generation feature. Enter a standard or topic, and Pear Deck builds a complete interactive lesson — slides and question slides included — in about 30 seconds. You can review and edit every slide before delivering it to students.
