# Enable Auto-Approve for a Room

> Configure a room in GoGuardian Hall Pass to automatically approve passes so students skip the Waiting for Approval state.

Auto-approve is a per-room setting in GoGuardian Hall Pass that lets passes to a specific room bypass the **Waiting for Approval** state and go directly to **Active**. It's most useful for high-traffic, low-supervision rooms like bathrooms or water fountains where individual approval adds friction without adding value.

Auto-approve does not bypass site-wide enforcement. Capacity limits, pass limits, time restrictions, and out-together rules can still block a pass even when auto-approve is turned on for the destination room.

## Enable Auto-Approve for a Room

1. Go to **Manage** and select **Rooms**.

2. Select the room you want to configure.

3. In the room form, turn on **Auto-Approve Passes**.
   > The field description reads: "Automatically approve passes to this room. This is useful for rooms like bathrooms."

4. Click **Save**.

5. Verify the result: The room now shows Auto-Approve Passes as enabled. Passes to this room move directly to Active without requiring manual approval.

## Understand What Still Applies When Auto-Approve Is On

Turning on Auto-Approve Passes for a room does not disable other enforcement checks. A pass to an auto-approve room can still enter Waiting for Approval if any of the following apply:

* **Destination room is at capacity:** the room has reached its active pass limit
* **The maximum number of hall passes for this site are in use:** site capacity is full
* **Student has reached the pass limit:** the student has hit a daily or weekly pass limit
* **Minimum time between passes:** the student is within a cooldown window
* **Another student with an out-together rule is currently in the hallway:** an out-together rule applies to this student
* **Time restriction is active:** a time restriction is currently blocking new passes

If a pass to an auto-approve room is in Waiting for Approval, check the pass for the specific blocker reason.

## Choose When to Use Auto-Approve

Auto-approve works best for rooms where:

* Traffic is high and passes are routine (bathrooms, water fountains, hallway lockers)
* No destination teacher approval is needed
* Speed of movement matters more than review

For rooms that require staff oversight (counselor's office, nurse, administrator), leave auto-approve off so staff can review each request.
