# Get Started with GoGuardian Parent

> How parents and guardians download, sign in to, and configure the GoGuardian Parent app after receiving access from their school's administrator.

GoGuardian Parent is available on iOS and Android. Your school's IT administrator enables access and links your account to your student. Once access is set up, follow these steps to get started.

<Note>
  GoGuardian Parent requires iOS 12 or later, or Android 5.0 or later. {/* TECH-ACCURACY: Confirm current minimum version requirements — legacy articles conflict (iOS 8 vs iOS 12, Android Jelly Bean vs Android 5.0). */}
</Note>

## Download and Open the App

1. Download GoGuardian Parent from the [Apple App Store](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/goguardian-parent-app/id1470168511) or [Google Play](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.goguardian.parent).
2. Open the app after installation.

## Sign In with Your Email Address

1. Enter the email address on file with your school's administration.
2. Verify the result: A prompt appears to check your email.

If you see the message "Sorry, the email you provided can't be verified," double-check the spelling. If the address is correct, contact your school or district's IT department to confirm the email is registered.

## Complete Email Verification

1. Open the verification email on your mobile device.
2. Tap the link in the email to complete sign-in.

If the link does not work, return to the app and enter the PIN included in the verification email.

## Accept the Terms and Conditions

1. Read the terms and conditions by scrolling to the bottom of the text.
2. Select the checkbox to confirm you have read the terms.
3. Click **I Agree**.
4. Verify the result: The app opens to the Your Students page.

If the **I Agree** button shows as "Read to the bottom," scroll to the end of the terms text, then select the checkbox. If the problem continues, close the app, confirm your device has an internet connection, and try again. Contact your school's IT department if the issue persists.

## Select a Student and Review Activity

1. Select a student from the **Your Students** page.
2. Choose a time range: Last Day, Last 7 Days, Last 14 Days, or Last 30 Days.
3. Use the navigation bar at the bottom to switch between Summary, Activity, Filters, Time Limits, and Settings.

What you can view depends on your school's configuration. See [Review Student Activity in GoGuardian Parent](/products/parent-app/review-student-activity) for a full list of available data.

## Configure Parental Controls

Parental controls — website filtering and internet pausing — are available only if your school's IT administrator has enabled them. Controls apply only during out-of-school hours.

**To block a website:**

1. Select **Filters** from the navigation bar at the bottom of the app.
2. Tap the button to add a website.
3. Enter the domain you want to block — for example, `instagram.com` or `mail.google.com`. Subdomains and full domains are both supported. Wildcard expressions are not supported.
4. Tap **Create**.
5. Verify the result: The site appears in your blocked websites list. It may take up to 2 minutes for the block to take effect.

To remove a blocked site, swipe left on the entry and confirm deletion.

**To pause internet access:**

1. Select **Time Limits** from the navigation bar.
2. Tap **Pause Internet** and select a time increment.
3. Verify the result: The app displays a countdown and confirms internet access is paused for your student.

Tap **Resume Internet** to restore access before the pause ends.

**To set a recurring internet schedule:**

1. Select **Time Limits** from the navigation bar.
2. Tap **Add Schedule**.
3. Select the days of the week and set the start and end times for when the internet should be off.
4. Tap **Create**.
5. Verify the result: The schedule appears in the Time Limits section and repeats on the selected days.

<Note>
  For overnight schedules that span midnight, create two separate schedule entries — for example, one from 9:00 PM to 12:00 AM and one from 12:00 AM to 7:00 AM. Contact your school's IT department if you have questions about when your student's out-of-school hours begin.
