# Clone Tests

> Create a copy of any assessment to add questions, edit items, or build a new version

Cloning an assessment creates a copy that you can edit independently: add questions, rearrange items, or adjust content: without changing the original test. You can clone from the Tests tab or from the Assignments tab.

## Clone from the Tests Tab

1. In the navigation menu, click **Tests** or **Assignments**.
2. Click the assessment you want to clone.
3. Select an assessment you created, one shared with you, or one shared with the Pear Assessment community.
4. Click the **Assessment** card, then click **Clone**.

5. Click **Clone**. A new test ID is created and the cloned test appears in your **Created By Me** section.

## Clone from the Assignments Tab

1. In the navigation menu, click **Assignments**.

2. At the end of the assignment row, click **Actions**.

3. Click **Duplicate**.

4. The cloned assessment uses the same title as the original with the date and time appended. You can edit the title at this point.

5. Add items from the **Item Bank** or create your own items.

## Frequently Asked Questions

### If I Clone a Test, Will a New Test ID Be Created?

Yes. To find the cloned test, click the **Tests** tab and clear all filters. The cloned test appears with a different test ID.

### What Happens to the Items in a Cloned Test?

The items retain the same item ID and display the original author's name. You can edit items in the cloned test: when you save those edits, a new item ID is created. Edits apply only to the cloned test and do not affect the original.
