# Reconfiguration of Canvas Integration

> Restore a cleared Canvas integration by regenerating the Secret Key, reconfiguring Developer Keys, and updating Canvas settings to re-enable SSO and grade sync.

Reconfiguration of Canvas Integration in Pear Assessment

This article explains how to reconfigure the Canvas integration in Pear Assessment after the Canvas setup was cleared. It includes steps to regenerate the existing Secret Key in Canvas, configure Developer Keys in Pear Assessment, update the existing Canvas App Configuration, and verify the correct Launch URL, Redirect URI, and assignment environment settings. The article also includes important configuration checks to avoid duplicate Developer Keys or App Configurations and ensure a successful Canvas SSO setup.

## Reconfiguration of Canvas Integration in Pear Assessment

Due to a recent security incident, the Canvas integration setup in Pear Assessment was cleared and needs to be reconfigured. Please follow the steps below carefully.

## Important:

* You do not need to create new Developer Keys in Canvas.
* If duplicate Developer Keys or App Configurations were created, retain only one active configuration and remove the duplicates.

## Before You Begin

Please ensure you have:

* Canvas Admin access
* Access to the existing Pear Assessment / Pear Assessment Developer Key in Canvas
* Access to Pear Assessment District Admin settings

## Step 1: Regenerate the Secret Key in Canvas

1. In Canvas, navigate to:

Admin > Developer Keys
2\. Locate the existing Pear Assessment / Pear Assessment Developer Key.
3\. Open the existing key and regenerate the Secret Key.

4. Copy the following values:

Client ID

Newly generated Secret Key

## Step 2: Configure Developer Keys in Pear Assessment

1. Sign in to Pear Assessment as a District Admin.
2. Navigate to the Canvas integration setup page.
3. Paste:

Canvas Instance URL

Client ID

Secret Key

### Canvas Instance URL Format

Your Canvas Instance URL should look like:[https://yourschool.instructure.com](https://yourschool.instructure.com)

### Important

* Do not add a trailing slash.

✅ Correct: [https://yourschool.instructure.com](https://yourschool.instructure.com)

❌ Incorrect: [https://yourschool.instructure.com/](https://yourschool.instructure.com/)

1. Click **Next**.

## Step 3: Copy the Consumer Key and Secret Key from Pear Assessment

After clicking Next, Pear Assessment will generate:

* Consumer Key
* Shared Secret

Copy both values and click **Next**.

This completes the required actions inside Pear Assessment.
No additional setup steps are needed in Pear Assessment.

## Step 4: Update the Existing App in Canvas

1. In Canvas, navigate to:

Settings > Apps > View App Configurations
2\. Locate the existing Pear Assessment / Pear Assessment app.
3\. Click **Edit**.
4\. Update the following fields:

Consumer Key → Paste the Consumer Key copied from Pear Assessment

Shared Secret → Paste the Shared Secret copied from Pear Assessment

Launch URL → Set this to [https://app.edulastic.com/api/auth/Lti](https://app.edulastic.com/api/auth/Lti)

Privacy Level → Set to Public

5. Click **Submit**.

## Step 5: Reauthorize the Teacher Account

Ask the teachers to reauthorize their canvas connection by resyncing any one of their classes within Pear Assessment from manage class. This will allow assignments and grades to sync automatically going forward.

Launch URL Guidance

The Launch URL configured in Canvas must match the environment used in Pear Assessment and the Redirect URI configured under Developer Keys.

## Important Configuration Checks

* Ensure only one Pear Assessment / Pear Assessment Developer Key exists in Canvas. If duplicate Developer Keys were created, delete the extras and retain one active key.
* Ensure only one Pear Assessment / Pear Assessment app configuration exists in Canvas. If duplicate app configurations were created, delete the extras and retain one active app.
* Ensure there is no trailing slash in the Canvas Instance URL.
* If issues persist after updating the configuration, please contact Pear Assessment Support.

## FAQ

### Assignments or Grades Are Not Syncing to Canvas

Reauthorize your Canvas connection by resyncing any one of your Canvas classes within Pear Assessment from Manage Classes.

This will allow assignments and grades to sync automatically going forward.

You can also use the Share with Canvas option from the Live Class Board for assignments to push to Canvas, and use Canvas Grade Sync for grades to sync to Canvas.
