# Set Up Data Studio for Your District

> Configure Data Studio for a district plan: verify eligibility, enable user access, assign Data Operations permissions, and connect your first data source.

Data Studio is a district-level add-on for Pear Assessment. It gives district administrators and instructional leaders a unified view of student progress across assessment results, attendance data, and external benchmarks. This article covers how to verify eligibility, enable access for your team, and connect your first data source.

## Before You Start

* Your district must be on a Pear Assessment district plan that includes Data Studio. Contact your Pear Deck Learning account manager to confirm eligibility or request a demo.
* You must have a district administrator role in Pear Assessment to complete setup.

## Verify Data Studio Is Enabled for Your District

1. Sign in to Pear Assessment at [assessment.peardeck.com](https://assessment.peardeck.com).
2. In the left navigation, look for the **Data Studio** tab.
3. If the tab is not visible, Data Studio is not enabled for your account. Contact Pear Deck Learning support to confirm your plan includes Data Studio and request activation.

## Enable User Access

By default, Data Studio is visible only to district administrators. To give school administrators, instructional coaches, or other users access:

1. In Pear Assessment, go to **Admin** and open **User Management**.
2. Find the user and open their profile.
3. Under **Permissions**, enable the **Data Studio** permission.
4. Save the changes.

Users with Data Studio permission can view all Data Studio reports. They cannot import data or change district-wide settings unless they also have the Data Operations permission.

## Assign Data Operations Permission

Data Operations permission allows a user to import external data files, manage data feeds, and configure risk bands. Assign this permission only to users responsible for data management.

1. In **User Management**, open the user's profile.
2. Under **Permissions**, enable **Data Operations**.
3. Save the changes.

<Note>
  Users must have an email address on their account to receive Data Operations permission. If the permission option is unavailable, confirm the user profile includes a valid email address.
</Note>

## Connect Your First Data Source

Data Studio works with 3 types of data sources:

| Source type | What it provides |
| -------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Pear Assessment results | Assessment scores, standards mastery, and item-level data from assignments in your district |
| External benchmark imports | State assessment results, NWEA MAP, iReady, and other external file-based data |
| Attendance data | Attendance and enrollment records from your SIS |

Pear Assessment results are available in Data Studio automatically — no import is required.

To import an external benchmark or attendance data, see [Connect External Data Sources to Data Studio](/products/pear-assessment/connect-external-data-sources).

## Verify It Worked

After setup, sign in to Data Studio and open the **Dashboard** report. If Pear Assessment data is available for your district, you should see academic summary data filtered to the current school year. If the report is empty, confirm there are completed, scored assignments in Pear Assessment for the current year and that the duration filter is set correctly.
