# Troubleshoot Assessment Import and Conversion

> Fix problems importing a document, PDF, or Google Form into Pear Assessment, including SnapQuiz errors, Doc-to-Test failures, and unsupported formats.

Use this article when an assessment import fails, produces incorrect questions, or does not complete as expected.

## Doc-to-Test Import Is Failing or Signing You Out

Doc-to-Test converts a Word document or Google Doc into a Pear Assessment. If the conversion logs you out or produces an error:

1. Confirm the document is formatted as text, not as a scanned image. Scanned documents cannot be read by the converter.
2. Remove complex formatting before importing: tables, columns, embedded images that contain question text, and decorative spacing can cause parsing errors.
3. Confirm you are signed in to the Google account connected to your Pear Assessment account before starting the conversion. A session mismatch can cause a logout mid-process.
4. Try exporting the Google Doc as a Word file (.docx) and importing the Word file instead.

## SnapQuiz Import Is Producing Errors

SnapQuiz imports from a PDF or image of a printed test. Common errors:

**Questions are missing or incomplete:**

1. Confirm the PDF is not a scanned image at low resolution. SnapQuiz requires a minimum of 150 DPI. If your scan is lower resolution, re-scan at a higher setting.
2. Confirm each question is clearly separated and numbered. Questions that run together without a line break or number may not be detected.
3. Review every generated question after import. SnapQuiz is a draft — questions with complex formatting, diagrams, or mathematical notation require manual correction.

**The PDF upload fails immediately:**

1. Check the file size. Files larger than 25 MB may not upload. Compress the PDF or split it into smaller files.
2. Remove password protection from the PDF before uploading.
3. Try uploading a different PDF to confirm whether the issue is file-specific or account-specific.

## Content Converter (Google Forms to Pear Assessment) Is Not Working

The Content Converter imports a Google Form into Pear Assessment as a new assessment.

1. Confirm the Google Form is owned by or shared with the Google account connected to your Pear Assessment.
2. Open the Content Converter from within Pear Assessment, not by navigating directly to the converter URL. The tool requires an active Pear Assessment session.
3. If the form imports but question types are not recognized, check whether the form uses question types not supported by Pear Assessment. Multiple choice, short answer, and paragraph questions import reliably. Grid questions and image-only questions may not import correctly.

## Supported Import Formats

| Import method | Supported input | Notes |
| ---------------------- | ------------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Doc-to-Test | Google Docs, Word (.docx) | Text-based documents only. Complex formatting may cause errors. |
| SnapQuiz | PDF, JPG, PNG | Minimum 150 DPI for reliable results. No password protection. |
| Content Converter | Google Forms | Multiple choice and short answer import most reliably. |
