# Understand Pear Deck File Permissions

> Learn why Pear Deck requests access to Google Drive or OneDrive and what each permission is used for

When you create a Pear Deck teacher account, Pear Deck requests access to certain files and identifying information in your Google Drive or Microsoft OneDrive. These permissions allow Pear Deck to add interactivity to your slides and launch your presentations.

Students do not need to create a Pear Deck account or grant file access when they join a teacher's presentation session. If a student wants to create and present their own Pear Deck slides, they must create a teacher account and grant the required file access during that process.

## Google Drive Permissions

Pear Deck requests the following permissions from Google Drive when you connect your account. Each permission supports a specific feature.

* **View your files:** lets Pear Deck open and present the files in your Google Drive.
* **View your presentations:** lets Pear Deck open and present your Google Slides presentations.
* **View and manage files and folders created or opened with the Pear Deck app:** lets Pear Deck add interactive questions to your slides and save the changes.
* **Add Pear Deck to your Google Drive:** lets Pear Deck create and store new presentations and Pear Deck files in your Drive.

## Microsoft OneDrive Permissions

Pear Deck requests the following permissions from Microsoft Office 365 OneDrive.

**Sign in and read user profile / Sign users in / View users' basic profile**

Pear Deck uses these permissions to identify you when you sign in to your account in PowerPoint Online and on the Pear Deck Home page. Your profile information displays your name in profile settings, and your email address determines whether you have Premium status and is used to send product updates.

**Read all files that user can access**

Pear Deck uses this permission to let you interactively present files and presentations from your OneDrive. This also allows you to launch presentations from Pear Deck Home.

**Have full access to user files / Have full access to all files user can access**

Pear Deck uses this permission to create new presentations on OneDrive. Write access is required to create and update PowerPoint files, for example when you click **Create Presentation** on the Pear Deck Home page or insert new interactive questions into a PowerPoint Online presentation.
