## Getting Started with Pear Practice

A guide to fostering fun and collaboration in Pear Practice, including how to set up your account, your first classroom, and your Practice Sets.

This article guides you on creating an account, building classrooms and assignments, and running Live Practices in Pear Practice.

## Looking for Giant Steps?

If you're looking for Giant Steps, you're in the right place — Giant Steps runs on Pear Practice. Everything below applies:

* **Log in** with Google, Clever, or Microsoft single sign-on. See [Set up Account](#set-up-account).
* **Set up classes and students.** See [Create Classroom](#create-classroom) and [Enroll Students](#enroll-students).
* **Find content.** See [Explore Content](#explore-content) and [Add Practice Sets](#add-practice-sets).
* **Get account help.** See [Troubleshoot Pear Practice Account and Login Issues](/products/pear-practice/troubleshoot-pear-practice-account).

## Technical Guidelines

It's important that you and your students access Pear Practice fully, so please send your network administrator our technical guidelines to avoid interruptions in the classroom.

Please submit a support case if you have any questions about the guidelines.

## Set Up Account

Configure your account in minutes with a smooth authentication via Google, Clever, or Microsoft single sign-on. You won't even have to remember a password for Pear Practice.

As you create your account, we ask a few questions about your geographical location, time zone, and the subjects you teach. It's to help us better prepare your Pear Practice environment, including setting your default language, preparing the standards, sending timely notifications about assignments, and building Practice Sets. We do it all so that you can focus on your students.

## Create Classroom

We built the Classroom feature as a multi-purpose tool:

* Add students
* Assign Practice Sets to a student or a class
* Evaluate progress reports for a student or a class by Practice Sets, assignments, or standards

When you create your classroom, think of what it's traditionally been and what it could be, a focused group project, for example.

## Enroll Students

After you've created your classrooms, add your students with one of three options:

* Google Classroom
* Link
* Email

Please remember that your Google Classroom email address matches your Pear Practice account. If they mismatch, we recommend inviting students via a link or adding them directly to the classroom via email.

After enrolling your students, please watch our video to better understand how students engage and enjoy Pear Practice.

## Explore Content

Explore is a centralized content repository where teachers can browse recommended Practice Sets, search sets, or review them by subject or grade from the following tabs:

* All Sets, which combines all sets below into one tab
* My Sets, which pulls sets from My Library that match specified search criteria
* My District, which is formerly My School
* From Experts, which displays certified, standards-aligned content generated by our in-house team of education experts
* From Community, which displays content created by other educators

Teachers can view the above areas after filtering content or using the personalized view provided by Pear Practice. If the teacher has provided their subjects and grades in their account settings, the personalized view recommends content based on the teacher's subjects and grades.

## Add Practice Sets

A Practice Set is a group of questions tailored to one or more subjects, grade levels, and certified state standards. You can structure it in any way that works for your classroom. For example, prepare a set with questions about robotics, history, physics, and psychology for an interdisciplinary project focused on thoughtful creations.

Once you've created your Practice Set, add questions from either the Public Library created by the Pear Practice community, the School Library created by educators in your district or school, add them manually, or import them in bulk via CSV. The question types include the following:

* Multiple Choice
* Text Response
* Numerical
* Draw
* Diagram
* Classification

## Build Assignments

Want students to work on their own? Encourage practice by creating an assignment for the entire class, a group of students, or even an individual student. Assign a due date and an accuracy goal in seconds.

## View Reports

Student progress is the goal in every classroom, so while they play out front, we measure progress in the back. An entire classroom or a single student's progress is evaluated with accuracy scores from zero to 100 percent in three key areas:

* Assignments
* Practice Sets
* Standards

## Start Live Practice

All your hard work in building a fun and insightful environment culminates in Live Practices, a gamified learning feature where you turn your student's practice into play. They collaborate to answer questions and earn XP, which is also earned in practice assignments. Students spend their XP on accessories on their avatar and take new scenic routes in the Season Map.

## Open Student Mode

If you dreamed of being a student in Pear Practice, realize your dreams with Student Mode. Navigate to your account menu and click **Open as Student**, which previews your account as a student with playful practices and even personalized avatars. We recommend using it for familiarizing with a student's experience and for demonstration, so students understand where their assignments and their XP live.

If you have any questions, please review our Help Center or submit a support case.
