# Use Pear Start with Pear Assessment

> Generate assessments from lesson plans and link Pear Assessment tests to your Pear Start lesson packages.

Pear Start and Pear Assessment work together to give you a complete lesson package in one workflow. Pear Start drafts the assessment alongside your lesson plan and practice set. Pear Assessment holds the assessment in your test library, where you can assign, edit, and review results the same way you would any other test.

This article covers how to include an assessment when generating a lesson package in Pear Start, how to find it in Pear Assessment, and how to assign or edit it.

## Generate an Assessment from a Lesson Plan

When you create a lesson package in Pear Start, you can include an assessment as part of that package. Pear Start drafts the assessment alongside the lesson plan and practice set. The result is a draft. Review it before assigning.

1. Open **Pear Start** and click **Tools** in the left sidebar.

2. Select an AI-based tool and fill out the topic, grade level, and standards fields.

3. Click **Generate**.

4. Click **Transform** at the bottom of the generated content.

5. Select **Pear Lesson Package** to create all 3 materials at once: a Pear Deck lesson, a Pear Practice set, and a Pear Assessment test.

   To create only the assessment, select **Instant Pear Assessment Test** instead.

6. Review the auto-populated settings, including **Grade Level**, **Reading Level**, and **Subject**.

7. Click **Create Materials**.

Pear Start drafts the assessment and sends it to your Pear Assessment test library. A confirmation screen lists the materials created. Click the assessment link to open it in Pear Assessment, or find it later using the steps in the next section.

<Note>
  The assessment is a draft. Pear Start suggests standards alignment based on your input. Confirm the alignment in Pear Assessment before assigning.
</Note>

## Find Your Generated Assessment in Pear Assessment

After Pear Start creates the materials, your assessment appears in Pear Assessment's test library.

1. Open **Pear Assessment** from the waffle tray in the upper-left corner of Pear Start.
2. Click **Tests** in the left navigation.
3. Find your assessment in the **My Tests** tab. Tests appear in reverse chronological order, so your most recently generated assessment is at the top.

Your assessment is ready to review and assign from the test library.

If the assessment does not appear immediately, wait up to 2 minutes and refresh the page. Generation runs in the background, and Pear Assessment updates the library when the process completes.

<Note>
  Your Pear Start account and your Pear Assessment account must use the same email address. If they do not match, the assessment will not appear in your library. See **Troubleshoot a Missing Assessment** below.
</Note>

## Assign the Assessment from Pear Assessment

Once you locate the assessment in your test library, assign it the same way you assign any Pear Assessment test.

1. In **Pear Assessment**, click **Tests** in the left navigation.
2. Open the assessment you want to assign.
3. Review the questions and suggested standards alignment. Edit any item before assigning.
4. Click **Assign**.
5. Select your class, set a start date and a due date, and configure any additional settings.
6. Click **Assign Test**.

Students receive the assessment based on your class and date settings. Results appear in Pear Assessment's reports dashboard after students submit.

For full details on assignment options, see [Assign a Test in Pear Assessment](/products/pear-assessment/assign-a-test).

## Troubleshoot a Missing Assessment

If you completed the Pear Start generation steps but can't find the assessment in Pear Assessment, work through these checks.

**Check that your accounts match.** Your Pear Start account and your Pear Assessment account must use the same email address. If you signed in to each product with a different account, the assessment won't transfer. Sign out of both products, sign back in with the same email address, and run the generation again.

**Confirm that generation completed.** Return to Pear Start and check the confirmation screen or your lesson history. If the status shows an error or is still in progress, the assessment may not have been sent to Pear Assessment yet. Wait for the generation to finish, then check your Pear Assessment library again.

**Refresh the test library.** Pear Assessment updates the library after generation completes. If you opened the library immediately after clicking Create Materials, the test may not have arrived yet. Wait 2 minutes and refresh the page.

**Run the generation again.** If the assessment still doesn't appear after the steps above, return to Pear Start and create a new Instant Pear Assessment Test from the same content. Use the **Transform** button on the original generated content to avoid re-entering your inputs.

If the issue continues, contact Pear Deck Learning support and include the title of your lesson package and the email address on each account.

## Edit an Assessment Generated by Pear Start

After Pear Start sends an assessment to Pear Assessment, it behaves like any other test in your library. You can edit questions, adjust standards alignment, change the item order, or add new items.

1. In **Pear Assessment**, open the assessment from your **Tests** library.
2. Click **Edit** to open the test editor.
3. Make your changes: update question text, replace items, adjust the standards tags, or reorder questions.
4. Click **Save** when you're done.

Your edits apply to all future assignments of this test. If you have already assigned the test to a class, update the assignment settings before students begin.

For a full walkthrough of the test editor, see [Update Test Settings in Pear Assessment](/products/pear-assessment/update-test-settings).
