# Allow Desktop Notifications

> Enable desktop notifications in Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge so GoGuardian Teacher can alert you when students send chat messages.

GoGuardian Teacher may ask you to allow desktop notifications so you receive alerts when students send Teacher Chat messages. Follow the steps for your browser below.

## Google Chrome

1. Go to [teacher.goguardian.com](https://teacher.goguardian.com) and sign in.

2. Click the lock icon to the left of the URL in the address bar. Find the **Notifications** drop-down and select **Allow**.

3. Click the Chat toggle to turn on Chat. Click the cogwheel icon and turn on **Desktop Notifications**.

4. Confirm that the Desktop Notifications setting shows as enabled in the cogwheel menu.

## Mozilla Firefox

1. Go to [teacher.goguardian.com](https://teacher.goguardian.com) and sign in.

2. Click the notification icon to the left of the URL in the address bar. Click the **X** next to the disabled notification preference to unblock notifications.

3. Click the Chat toggle to turn on Chat. Click the cogwheel icon and turn on **Desktop Notifications**.

## Safari

1. Go to [teacher.goguardian.com](https://teacher.goguardian.com) and sign in. Click **Safari** in the top-left menu bar and select **Preferences**.

2. In the Preferences window, click **Notifications** near the bottom-left corner under **General**. Confirm that [goguardian.com](https://goguardian.com) is set to **Allow**.

3. Click the Chat toggle to turn on Chat. Click the cogwheel icon and turn on **Desktop Notifications**.

## Microsoft Edge

1. Click the lock icon to the left of the address bar.

2. Under **Website Permissions**, turn the **Notifications** toggle to **On**.

3. Click the Chat toggle to turn on Chat. Click the cogwheel icon and turn on **Desktop Notifications**.

  Internet Explorer does not support desktop notifications. Use Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge to enable this feature.
