# Communicate with Parents and Guardians About GoGuardian Teacher

> Resources and guidance for schools and districts communicating with parents and guardians about the use of GoGuardian Teacher.

GoGuardian supports schools and districts in being transparent with families about the use of GoGuardian Teacher in the classroom. The resources and guidance below are intended as templates. Customize them to reflect your school's or district's specific settings, policies, and community.

## Before You Communicate

Review these 3 questions before drafting your communication:

**1. Which GoGuardian products does your school or district use?**

Your parent and guardian communication should describe the specific GoGuardian products your school or district has adopted. Resources below focus on GoGuardian Admin and GoGuardian Teacher. Communication resources for GoGuardian Beacon are available separately.

**2. Which settings and policies has your school or district selected?**

GoGuardian products include a range of settings options. For example, in-school and out-of-school filtering settings can differ, and settings can vary by student group or age range through Organizational Unit (OU) configurations. Review your GoGuardian settings before communicating, or contact [support@goguardian.com](mailto:support@goguardian.com) with questions.

**3. Does your school or district need to include parental consent or opt-out language?**

GoGuardian's sample letter template does not include consent or opt-out language by default. GoGuardian obtains school-based consent under the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). Whether consent or opt-out language is appropriate for your community is a decision for your school or district.

## Communication Resources

### Template Parent and Guardian Letter

GoGuardian provides a [Template Parent/Guardian Letter for GoGuardian Admin and GoGuardian Teacher](https://support.goguardian.com/s/article/Admin-Template-Letter-for-Guardians-1629764025444) that your school or district can customize. Because Admin and Teacher are different products, customize the letter to describe only the products your district has adopted.

### GoGuardian COPPA Disclosure and Consent Form

GoGuardian receives school consent under COPPA rather than individual parental consent. As a transparency measure, GoGuardian recommends sending home a [COPPA Notice and Disclosure Form](https://www.goguardian.com/policies/coppa-disclosure) even for students over the age of 13.

### Technology Use Agreement

GoGuardian does not provide a sample technology use agreement, but many schools and districts require students and parents or guardians to sign one. Even if your school or district already has a technology use agreement, GoGuardian recommends communicating about the adoption of GoGuardian products in a separate letter or communication home.
