# Fix the GoGuardian Extension on Teacher Devices

> Troubleshoot the GoGuardian extension on a teacher's device: missing or disabled extension, features not working, reinstalling, and platform differences.

This article covers the GoGuardian extension on a device or browser — when it's missing, disabled, or not working. If instead a specific student shows as offline, see [Student Offline](/products/teacher/student-offline). If the GoGuardian Teacher dashboard itself won't load, see [Fix GoGuardian Teacher Loading and Performance Issues](/products/teacher/troubleshoot-loading-performance).

## Extension Not Visible or Not Active

1. In the browser, go to `chrome://extensions` and look for the GoGuardian extensions (**GoGuardian** and **GoGuardian License**).
2. If they're present but off, enable them and reload the page.
3. Confirm you're signed in to the browser with your school account, not a personal or guest profile — the extensions are tied to the signed-in school account.
4. Test in an incognito or private window to rule out another extension interfering. Ad blockers such as AdBlock or uBlock are common culprits; see [Disable AdBlock and uBlock](/products/teacher/disable-ad-blockers).

## Extension Installed but Features Aren't Working

1. Reload the page, then fully restart the browser.
2. Confirm the browser is up to date; an out-of-date browser can break extension behavior.
3. Confirm the signed-in account is the correct school account.
4. If the extension is managed by your organization, a Chrome policy may be limiting it. Export the policy for review — see [Export Chrome Policy](/products/teacher/export-chrome-policy) — and share it with your IT administrator.

## Reinstall or Update the Extension

GoGuardian extensions are typically deployed by your IT administrator through the Google Admin Console rather than installed by hand.

1. Ask your IT administrator to confirm the extension is force-installed to the correct Organizational Unit. See [Install GoGuardian Extensions](/products/admin/install-extensions).
2. To pick up a fresh copy or the latest version, sign out, restart the device, and sign back in with the school account so managed extensions reapply.

## Device-Specific Behavior

* **Chromebook:** Extensions are managed centrally and reapply at sign-in. If one is missing, the device or user may be in an OU without the force-install policy.
* **Windows and Mac:** The browser user must be signed in to Chrome with the school account — not just signed in to a website. Confirm the browser profile, not only the Google session.

## Contact Your IT Administrator

If the extension still isn't working after these steps, share the following with your IT administrator: the device type and operating system, the browser and version, whether the extensions appear in `chrome://extensions`, and your Chrome policy export.
