# Compatibility and Requirements

> Check the devices, browsers, badge printers, labels, and network access that GoGuardian Visitor kiosks and front desk computers need.

GoGuardian Visitor runs in Chrome or Microsoft Edge at the front desk, and on ChromeOS, iPad, or Windows kiosks where visitors and students check themselves in. Kiosks and badge printers are optional, so check only the sections for the hardware you use.

## Use a Supported Kiosk Device

| Platform | Version | Runs in | Badge printer connection |
| - | - | - | - |
| ChromeOS | ChromeOS 111 or later | Progressive web app (PWA) | USB |
| iPad | iPadOS 17.6 or later | [GoGuardian Campus app](https://manage.goguardian.com/installations/campus) | Network |
| Windows | Windows 10 or 11 Enterprise or Education | [GoGuardian Campus app](https://manage.goguardian.com/installations/campus) | USB or network |

Every kiosk needs a camera, built-in or external, for ID scanning and photos. To set up a kiosk on each platform, see [Kiosks](https://docs.goguardian.com/products/visitor/kiosks.md).

Windows kiosks need the Enterprise or Education edition because they use Shell Launcher, the Windows kiosk feature that limits the computer to the GoGuardian Campus app. Don't install [The GoGuardian App](https://docs.goguardian.com/products/gg-app/windows.md) on Windows kiosks. It runs GoGuardian Admin, Beacon, and Teacher on managed devices and is separate from the GoGuardian Campus app. Front desk computers can run any edition.

## Use a Supported Front Desk Computer

Staff use the **Front Desk** in a web browser. To scan IDs and take photos at the front desk, the computer needs a camera, built-in or external.

A front desk computer can print badges to a printer connected to it, or to a printer connected to an online kiosk, depending on the computer:

| Computer | Browser | USB printer | Network printer |
| - | - | - | - |
| Windows 10 or later | Chrome or Microsoft Edge | Connected directly with **Campus Front Desk Print Service**, or through a kiosk | Connected directly with **Campus Front Desk Print Service**, or through a kiosk |
| macOS | Chrome or Microsoft Edge | Connected directly, or through a kiosk | Through a kiosk |
| ChromeOS 111 or later | Chrome | Connected directly, or through a kiosk | Through a kiosk |

To print directly from a Windows front desk computer, install **Campus Front Desk Print Service** from the GoGuardian Campus installer for Windows. Download the installer from [**Installation** → **Campus**](https://manage.goguardian.com/installations/campus) in GoGuardian Org Management. Kiosks use **Campus Kiosk Application**, the installer's other feature. For how printing works, see [Badge Printers](https://docs.goguardian.com/products/visitor/badge-printers.md).

## Choose a Badge Printer

Visitor supports these badge printers. The connection a printer can use depends on the kiosk platform.

| Printer | ChromeOS | iPad | Windows |
| - | - | - | - |
| Brother QL-820NWB | USB | Network | USB or network |
| Dymo LabelWriter 450 | USB | Not supported | USB |
| Dymo LabelWriter 450 Turbo | USB | Not supported | USB |
| Dymo LabelWriter 550 | USB | Not supported | USB |
| Dymo LabelWriter 550 Turbo | USB | Network | USB or network |

## Choose Badge Labels

Visitor prints badges on these labels. Select the label in **Media Type** when you add or edit a printer.

| Printer | Label | Size |
| - | - | - |
| Dymo LabelWriter 450 and 550 series | 30857 name badge | 2.25 × 4 in. (57 × 102 mm) |
| Dymo LabelWriter 450 and 550 series | 30911 name badge with 12-hour expiration | 2.25 × 4 in. (57 × 102 mm) |
| Dymo LabelWriter 450 and 550 series | 30856 non-adhesive name badge | 2.44 × 4.19 in. (62 × 106 mm) |
| Dymo LabelWriter 450 and 550 series | 30256 shipping | 2.31 × 4 in. (59 × 102 mm) |
| Brother QL-820NWB | DK-1234 name badge | 2.3 × 3.4 in. (60 × 86 mm) |
| Brother QL-820NWB | DK-1202 shipping | 2.4 × 3.9 in. (62 × 100 mm) |
| Brother QL-820NWB | DK-2205 continuous length | 2.4 in. (62 mm) wide |

Dymo LabelWriter 550 and 550 Turbo printers work only with genuine Dymo labels.

To add a printer and select its label, see [Badge Printers](https://docs.goguardian.com/products/visitor/badge-printers.md).

## Allow Network Traffic

Allow this traffic on your network for kiosks and front desk computers:

| Allow | Purpose |
| - | - |
| `https://*.goguardian.com:443` | GoGuardian Visitor on front desk computers and kiosks |
| `wss://ws-goguardian.pusher.com:443` | Real-time updates, such as new check-ins on the **Front Desk** and printing through a kiosk |

If you use network printers, put them on the same network as the kiosks and Windows front desk computers that print to them. Then open these ports on that network:

| Port | Purpose |
| - | - |
| UDP 5353 | Finding printers on the network (mDNS) |
| UDP 161 | Checking the status of Brother network printers (SNMP) |
| TCP 9100 | Sending badges to the printer |
