Pear Practice (formerly Giant Steps) is a gamified practice tool that motivates students to engage in differentiated, standards-aligned practice at their own pace. As part of the Pear Deck Learning platform, it combines collaborative classroom experiences with personalized independent practice — so every student gets the right content at the right time.

Explore What You Can Do with Pear Practice

Differentiated practice at each student's pace

Students progress through practice sets at their own speed and choose what to work on. Daily Remixes automatically resurface personalized content at the right cadence for each learner.

Certified standards-aligned Math and ELA content

Access a rich library of certified, standards-aligned Math and ELA items ready for immediate use — no item creation required.

AI content generation

Go from a standard to a complete practice set in 30 seconds using Pear Practice’s built-in AI generation tool.

Customizable avatars and gamified seasons

Students earn rewards and customize their avatars as they practice. Seasonal themes and collaborative team formats keep motivation high throughout the year.

Collaborative classroom experiences

Run Pear Practice with the whole class to create a supportive community experience. The format encourages collaboration rather than competition, so every student feels included.

Aggregate student data for insights

View aggregated data across your class to quickly identify which students need more support and which standards require re-teaching.

Set Up a Practice Set

  1. Go to practice.peardeck.com and sign in with your school Google or Microsoft account.
  2. Browse by standard, subject, or grade level to find the content that matches your current unit.
  3. Choose from certified pre-built practice sets, or enter a standard and let the AI generator build a set for you in about 30 seconds. You can also upload existing materials — a photo, PDF, or website link — and convert them into a practice set.
  4. Assign the practice set to your whole class, or differentiate by student group. You can also assign sets as homework for independent practice outside of class time.
  5. The teacher dashboard shows you which students have completed the set, their scores, and which items they struggled with most. Use this data to guide small-group instruction or whole-class re-teaching.

Review Data and Insights

The teacher dashboard gives you a class-level view of practice results. You can see:
  • Which students completed the assigned practice
  • Individual scores and performance trends over time
  • Which standards or skills show the most gaps across the class
Use this information to identify students who need additional support, adjust upcoming lessons, or form targeted small groups.
Students also receive just-in-time feedback from the AI while they practice. When a student answers incorrectly, Pear Practice can generate an explanation of why the answer was wrong and how to approach the problem — without waiting for teacher intervention.
Run a whole-class session with Pear Practice to build community at the start of a unit, then assign individual practice sets so students can continue at their own pace.
