Loading failures in Pear Deck fall into three categories: the Pear Deck for Google Slides add-on won’t load, the Pear Deck for PowerPoint add-in won’t load, or the Pear Deck teacher dashboard won’t open. Start with the section that matches your situation.
Pear Deck for Google Slides Add-On Won’t Load
Quick Checks for Teachers
- Reload the page. Close the Google Slides tab and reopen the file.
- Check your account. Confirm you are signed in to Google Slides with the same Google account connected to your Pear Deck account. Mismatched accounts prevent the add-on from loading.
- Allow third-party cookies. Pear Deck requires third-party cookies to function. In Chrome, go to Settings > Privacy and Security > Cookies and other site data and confirm third-party cookies are not blocked for Pear Deck.
- Complete account setup. If you see a “Finish creating your account” message, your Pear Deck account registration is incomplete. Click the message to complete setup, then reload Google Slides.
- Try a different browser profile. If Chrome has multiple profiles, switch to the one connected to your Pear Deck account.
For IT Admins: Domain-Level Checks
If the issue affects multiple teachers across the district, the block is likely at the domain or network level.
- Allowlist Pear Deck domains. Confirm your network and content filter allow traffic to
*.peardeck.com, *.goguardian.com, and *.firebase.com. A block on any of these prevents the add-on from loading.
- Check Google Workspace admin settings. In the Google Workspace Admin console, go to Apps > Google Workspace Marketplace apps. Confirm the Pear Deck for Google Slides add-on is installed domain-wide or allowed for the affected organizational unit.
- Review third-party app access. Confirm Pear Deck is authorized in Security > API controls > App access control in the Google Workspace Admin console.
- Check managed Chrome browser settings. If Chrome is managed via policy, confirm the policy does not block third-party cookies or extensions for
peardeck.com.
Pear Deck for PowerPoint Add-In Won’t Load
- Reload the add-in panel. Click away from the Pear Deck panel and click the Pear Deck button in the ribbon again.
- Sign out and sign back in. In the add-in panel, click your name or the menu and sign out. Sign back in with the email connected to your Pear Deck account.
- Check your Microsoft account. The Pear Deck for PowerPoint add-in requires a Microsoft 365 account. Confirm you are using a supported version of Office Online, Microsoft 365, or PowerPoint 2016 or later.
- Reinstall the add-in. In the PowerPoint ribbon, go to Insert > Add-ins > My Add-ins. Remove the Pear Deck add-in, then reinstall it from the Office Add-ins store.
- Clear the Office cache. If the add-in loads but shows a blank panel or login loop, clearing the Office add-in cache often resolves it. Instructions vary by operating system — search “clear Office add-in cache” for your OS version.
Pear Deck Teacher Dashboard Won’t Open
- Check the URL. The teacher dashboard is at app.peardeck.com. Confirm you are not attempting to reach an old URL.
- Sign out and sign back in. Go to app.peardeck.com and sign out, then sign back in.
- Try a different browser. Pear Deck supports current versions of Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge. If the dashboard does not load in one browser, try another.
- Disable browser extensions. Ad blockers, privacy extensions, and VPNs can interfere with Pear Deck. Disable extensions temporarily to confirm whether one is causing the issue.
- Check network access. If you are on a school network, confirm the network is not blocking
app.peardeck.com. Ask your IT admin to check network logs if needed.
If none of the steps above resolve the issue, contact Pear Deck Learning support. When you open a case, include:
- What you see when Pear Deck tries to load (error message, blank panel, loading spinner that never resolves)
- The browser and version you are using
- Whether the issue affects one teacher or multiple teachers
- Whether the issue started recently or has always occurred
