Pear Deck collects student responses in real time and saves them automatically in the Session where they were collected. You can show responses to your class on the Projector View, and review them privately in the Teacher Dashboard (with Premium) in real time or after you end the Session. You can also publish responses after the lesson. To see students’ names as you review responses, require email sign-in before you present. It is the only way to see identifying information.

Show Responses Anonymously on the Projector View

The Projector View displays all responses anonymously by default so students can focus on the concepts without worrying about getting an answer wrong. Sharing this view with your class on a remote call or in a classroom lets everyone see what their peers think. When students begin responding to interactive questions on their Student View, the Projector View shows only your slide. This gives students time to respond on their own before seeing what others submitted. To open the Projector View and show all responses:
  1. Start a new Pear Deck lesson, or reopen a previous one from your Sessions menu.
  2. If you start a new lesson, choose Instructor Paced to automatically open the Projector View.
  3. Hover over the bottom of the slide. The Navigation bar appears.
  4. Click Show Responses.
On a Multiple Choice slide, responses appear overlaid on the slide by default. You can change the response layout by selecting an option in the top-left corner of the screen. Different interactive question types have different display options. Learn more in The Five Interactive Question Types. See Student Names with Responses in the Teacher Dashboard

To see names alongside responses during or after class, open the private Teacher Dashboard. You can open it in a new window from the Projector View, or in a new tab from the Sessions menu.

Open from the Projector View

Opening the Dashboard from the Projector View launches it in a new window so you can keep it private while presenting a live Session.
  1. On the Projector View, click the More Actions (three-dot) button.
  2. Click Open Dashboard in New Window. You can also open it on a separate device by going to peardeck.com/dash on that device.

Open from the Sessions Menu

Use this approach to review answers after class or during a Student Paced Session.
  1. Go to your Sessions page.
  2. Find the Session.
  3. Click the Dashboard View icon.

Review Responses Later

Responses are automatically saved in your Sessions menu. To review them later, find the Session and open the Projector View (for anonymous responses) or the Dashboard (for named responses). A Session with Closed status means students can no longer join. Sessions with Live or Student-Paced Mode status still allow students to join and respond. Change the status by opening one of the views or by clicking the More Actions button.

Publish Responses after the Lesson

When you sign in to Pear Deck with Google, you can publish responses at the end of the lesson. Confirm you are done collecting responses before publishing. Responses can only be published once per Session. Students’ names appear on published documents only if you require email sign-in before they join.
  • Takeaways™ (Premium): Extend the lesson with an individualized Google Doc for each student containing images of your slides, the student’s responses, and space for notes. Takeaways publish automatically to your Google Drive, and each student sees only their own Takeaway.
  • Spreadsheet export: Automatically export text-based responses to a Google spreadsheet. The spreadsheet includes Text, Multiple Choice, and Number responses (not Drawing or Draggable) along with students’ names and email addresses.
Google and Microsoft 365 users can also use Reflect & Review to view student responses and teacher feedback after a Session ends, directly in the Pear Deck environment. A shareable link lets students see their own individual responses alongside the slide deck and any teacher feedback left for them.
