Big Board Basics and Structure

The Big Board consists of practice items, voting rounds, and prize rounds. Each increases in point value, and the winning team earns bragging rights till next time. The Big Board incentivizes students to collaborate with their peers and earn as many points as possible together. The practices consist of three scoring structures, each raising the stakes and requiring increased collaboration:
  • Practice items
  • Voting rounds
  • Prize rounds

Big Board Basics

  • The total number of practice items and the time per item decide the game length.
  • Teachers configure the number of items and allotted time before starting a session in My Library > click on the Practice Set’s name > Start Live Session > Practice Settings.
  • Teams earn a token if at least one team member answers the practice item question correctly. Encourage students to place the token on empty spots on the board.
  • Tokens placed on the board can increase the point total for the team and unlock a surprise care package with a rare accessory for their avatar.

Game Structure

Practice Items

  • Each practice item’s worth up to 100 points.
  • Partial answers also receive points. For example, if two of three students answer correctly, the team receives 66 points.
  • If students select multiple correct answers (e.g., multiple choice), the points are awarded based on a math formula: Points awarded = partial points total (100 / (total correct responses in a practice item * the number of students in a team)) * the total number of correct responses by all students in the team)

Voting Rounds

  • Teams receive up to 150 points. 100 points by teacher vote. 50 points by class vote. Additional 50 points if the teacher and class vote for the same team, totaling 200 points.

Prize Rounds

  • The round shows every three questions and at the game’s end.
  • The first round is worth 100 points.
  • Each round increases by 100 points.
  • Collect additional points based on the number of tokens on the winning spot: Team points awarded = (total number of points available in the round / total number of all tokens on the winning board spot from all teams) * total number of your team’s tokens on the winning board spot
  • All teams with tokens on a winning square split the points in the round.
