Use these steps to reconfigure an existing Canvas integration with Pear Assessment. Update the existing Developer Key and app configuration instead of creating new ones.
Keep only 1 active Pear Assessment Developer Key and 1 active Pear Assessment app configuration in Canvas. Remove any duplicates before continuing.

Before You Begin

You need:
  • Canvas Admin access
  • Access to the existing Pear Assessment or Edulastic Developer Key in Canvas
  • Access to Pear Assessment District Admin settings

Regenerate the Secret Key in Canvas

  1. In Canvas, go to Admin > Developer Keys.
  2. Locate the existing Pear Assessment or Edulastic Developer Key.
  3. Open the key and regenerate the Secret Key.
  4. Copy the Client ID and newly generated Secret Key.

Configure the Developer Key in Pear Assessment

  1. Sign in to Pear Assessment as a District Admin.
  2. Go to Manage District > Settings > District Policies > Domains > 3rd Party Integrations.
  3. Select Canvas, then click View Configuration.
  4. Enter the following values:
    • Canvas Instance URL
    • Client ID
    • Secret Key
  5. Click Test Connection.
  6. Confirm that the Canvas Instance URL does not include a trailing slash. Correct: https://yourschool.instructure.com Incorrect: https://yourschool.instructure.com/
  7. Click Next.
Enter the Canvas Instance URL, Client ID, and Secret Key on the Developer Keys tab. Credential values are redacted.

Copy the Consumer Key and Shared Secret

  1. Copy the Consumer Key and Shared Secret generated by Pear Assessment.
  2. Click Next.
Copy the Consumer Key and Shared Secret from the App Configuration tab. Credential values are redacted. No other changes are required in Pear Assessment.

Update the Existing App in Canvas

  1. In Canvas, go to Settings > Apps > View App Configurations.
  2. Locate the existing Pear Assessment or Edulastic app.
  3. Open the app menu and click Edit.
Open the menu for the existing Edulastic app and click Edit.
  1. Update these fields:
    • Consumer Key: Enter the Consumer Key copied from Pear Assessment.
    • Shared Secret: Enter the Shared Secret copied from Pear Assessment.
    • Launch URL: Enter the URL for your Pear Assessment environment. Use the Launch URL and Redirect URI table below.
    • Privacy Level: Select Public.
  2. Click Submit.
Update the Consumer Key, Shared Secret, Launch URL, and Privacy Level in the Canvas app. Credential values are redacted.

Reauthorize Teacher Accounts

Ask each teacher to open 1 Canvas class from Manage Class, then click Sync with Canvas Classroom. Resyncing 1 class reauthorizes the teacher’s Canvas connection and restores automatic assignment and grade syncing. Click Sync with Canvas Classroom from a class in Manage Class.

Match the Launch URL and Redirect URI

The Launch URL in Canvas and the Redirect URI under Developer Keys must use the same Pear Assessment environment. Teachers must also create assignments from that environment.
Do not mix environments. For example, if the Canvas Launch URL uses app.edulastic.com, the Developer Key Redirect URI must also use app.edulastic.com.

Verify the Integration

Confirm the following:
  • Canvas contains 1 active Pear Assessment or Edulastic Developer Key.
  • Canvas contains 1 active Pear Assessment or Edulastic app configuration.
  • The Canvas Instance URL does not include a trailing slash.
  • The Launch URL and Redirect URI use the same environment.
  • A teacher can resync a Canvas class from Manage Class.
If the integration still does not work, contact Pear Assessment Support.
