Reconfiguration of Canvas Integration in Pear Assessment
Due to a recent security incident, the Canvas integration setup in Pear Assessment was cleared and needs to be reconfigured. Please follow the steps below carefully.Important:
- You do not need to create new Developer Keys in Canvas.
- If duplicate Developer Keys or App Configurations were created, retain only one active configuration and remove the duplicates.
Before You Begin
Please ensure you have:- Canvas Admin access
- Access to the existing Pear Assessment / Pear Assessment Developer Key in Canvas
- Access to Pear Assessment District Admin settings
Step 1: Regenerate the Secret Key in Canvas
- In Canvas, navigate to:
- Copy the following values:
Step 2: Configure Developer Keys in Pear Assessment
- Sign in to Pear Assessment as a District Admin.
- Navigate to the Canvas integration setup page.
- Paste:
Canvas Instance URL Format
Your Canvas Instance URL should look like:https://yourschool.instructure.comImportant
- Do not add a trailing slash.
- Click Next.
Step 3: Copy the Consumer Key and Secret Key from Pear Assessment
After clicking Next, Pear Assessment will generate:- Consumer Key
- Shared Secret
Step 4: Update the Existing App in Canvas
- In Canvas, navigate to:
- Click Submit.
Step 5: Reauthorize the Teacher Account
Ask the teachers to reauthorize their canvas connection by resyncing any one of their classes within Pear Assessment from manage class. This will allow assignments and grades to sync automatically going forward. Launch URL Guidance The Launch URL configured in Canvas must match the environment used in Pear Assessment and the Redirect URI configured under Developer Keys.Important Configuration Checks
- Ensure only one Pear Assessment / Pear Assessment Developer Key exists in Canvas. If duplicate Developer Keys were created, delete the extras and retain one active key.
- Ensure only one Pear Assessment / Pear Assessment app configuration exists in Canvas. If duplicate app configurations were created, delete the extras and retain one active app.
- Ensure there is no trailing slash in the Canvas Instance URL.
- If issues persist after updating the configuration, please contact Pear Assessment Support.
