Set Up Canvas Integration

Pear Assessment District Admins and Canvas Admins can connect Pear Assessment to Canvas. This setup enables single sign-on, roster sync, assignment sync, and grade sync.

Before You Begin

You need:

• Pear Assessment District Admin access
• Canvas Admin access
• Your district’s Pear Assessment environment: app.edulastic.com or assessment.peardeck.com

Enable Canvas Integration

1. Sign in to Pear Assessment with a District Admin account.
2. Go to Manage District > Settings > District Policies.

3. Under Domains > 3rd Party Integrations, select Canvas.
4. Click View Configuration to open the Canvas integration settings in a new tab.

5. Keep the Canvas integration tab open, then open your district’s Canvas instance in another tab.

Create a Developer Key in Canvas

1. Sign in to your district’s Canvas instance as a Canvas Admin.
2. Go to Admin > your managed account > Developer Keys.
3. Click + Developer Key, then select + API Key.

4. Enter the following values:
   • Key Name: Enter Edulastic if your district uses app.edulastic.com. Enter Pear Assessment if your district uses assessment.peardeck.com. This name is visible to users.
   • Owner Email: Enter the Canvas Admin’s email address.
   • Redirect URI: Enter the URI for your environment.

5. Save the Developer Key.
6. Copy the Client ID and Developer Key. Click Show Key to display the Developer Key.
7. On the Account tab, turn on the Developer Key.

8. If the key appears on the Inherited tab, open that tab and turn on the key.

Add Canvas Credentials to Pear Assessment

1. Return to the Pear Assessment Canvas integration tab.
2. Enter the following values on the Developer Keys tab:
   • Instance URL: Your Canvas Instance URL
   • Client ID: The Client ID from Canvas
   • Secret Key: The Developer Key from Canvas
3. Confirm that the Canvas Instance URL does not include a trailing slash. Correct: https://yourschool.instructure.com Incorrect: https://yourschool.instructure.com/
4. Click Test Connection.

5. If the test fails, confirm that the values match the Developer Key in Canvas.
6. After the test succeeds, click Next.
7. Copy the Consumer Key and Secret Key from the App Configuration tab.
8. Keep the Pear Assessment tab open, then return to Canvas.

Install the Pear Assessment App in Canvas

1. In Canvas, go to Settings > Apps.
2. Search for Pear Assessment, then open the Pear Assessment app.

3. Click + Add App.
4. Enter the Consumer Key and Shared Secret copied from Pear Assessment.
5. Enter the Launch URL for your environment.

6. Complete the app configuration and add the app.

Important Canvas Configuration Checks

Keep Only One Canvas Configuration

Your Canvas instance should have only 1 active Developer Key and 1 app configuration for Pear Assessment or Edulastic.

1. In Canvas, go to Admin > Developer Keys.
2. Retain the Developer Key associated with the Client ID entered on the Developer Keys page in Pear Assessment.
3. Delete any additional or duplicate Developer Keys for Pear Assessment or Edulastic.
4. Go to Settings > Apps > View App Configurations.
5. Retain 1 Pear Assessment or Edulastic app and remove any duplicates.
6. Edit the retained app.
7. Enter the Consumer Key and Shared Secret from the App Configuration page in Pear Assessment.
8. Save the changes.

Match the Launch URL and Redirect URI

The Launch URL, Redirect URI, and assignment environment must all use the same Pear Assessment environment. Teachers must create assignments from that environment.

Verify the Integration

Confirm that the Pear Assessment app appears under Settings > Apps > View App Configurations in Canvas.
