Pear Assessment supports district-managed rostering and single sign-on (SSO) through ClassLink. This article helps district and IT administrators prepare for the integration and manage ClassLink-synced rosters.
Decide Whether ClassLink Sync Fits Your District
ClassLink sync can be a good fit when 1 or more of these conditions apply:
- Pear Assessment is implemented across a district or multiple schools.
- Your student information system (SIS) contains accurate, current roster data.
- Your district already uses ClassLink with other educational applications.
- Student enrollment changes frequently during the school year.
If your organization does not need district-managed rostering, consider a teacher-managed option such as Google Classroom or manually created classes. Review Pear Assessment rostering options before choosing a method.
Understand How ClassLink Sync Works
ClassLink uses OneRoster to provision classes and users to Pear Assessment. After the integration is configured, ClassLink becomes the source of truth for synced classes and rosters. Updates made in your SIS flow through ClassLink to Pear Assessment during a sync.
The integration reduces the need for teachers to create accounts or manually update enrollment when students join, leave, or change classes.
Prepare for the Integration
Work with your district’s ClassLink or IT administrator to confirm that:
- Your SIS data is syncing correctly to ClassLink.
- The OneRoster sync is active.
- Pear Assessment is included in the ClassLink application roster.
- The correct schools, teachers, students, classes, and enrollments are shared with Pear Assessment.
- Each teacher’s email address in ClassLink matches the email address they use to sign in to Pear Assessment.
Contact your Pear Assessment Sales Team Member before syncing if your district plans to change student IDs, section IDs, the ClassLink OneRoster source URL, or its OAuth credentials. Source ID changes can create duplicate users or classes and break existing class associations.
Manage ClassLink-Synced Rosters
Classes rostered through ClassLink display the ClassLink integration symbol in Pear Assessment.
For a ClassLink-synced class, teachers cannot add or remove students directly in Pear Assessment. Make roster changes in the SIS or ClassLink, then allow the update to reach Pear Assessment during the next sync.
Teachers can create separate manual classes in Pear Assessment when needed. Manual classes are not connected to ClassLink and must be maintained directly in Pear Assessment.
Troubleshoot Missing Classes or Students
If a class or student does not appear in Pear Assessment:
- Ask your IT administrator to confirm that the record is active in the SIS and included in the ClassLink OneRoster data shared with Pear Assessment.
- Confirm that the teacher’s ClassLink email matches their Pear Assessment sign-in email.
- Check whether a student, teacher, or section source ID recently changed.
- Review the Pear Assessment sync history for errors or warnings if it is available to your administrator.
- Run the next scheduled or administrator-initiated sync, then check the roster again.
