Pear Assessment gives Enterprise users the ability to create test sections to replicate state tests more precisely. Most state tests include sections with different settings: states use sections to group items with specific configurations and to limit test time in a single sitting. Adding sections and applying section-level controls lets educators simulate the actual test environment more effectively.
Add Sections to a Test
- In the navigation menu, click Test.
- Click Create New Test.
- Click Create Section.
- Once a section is created, click Select Items to add questions to the section.
- Click Add.
- Click Done when ready.
- The screen redirects to the Manage Sections tab, where you can create another section or proceed to settings.
- Create as many sections as needed, then go to the Settings tab.
- In Settings, navigate to Section Settings.
- Configure the following options as needed:
- Prevent navigation to other sections
- Show a calculator, or choose no calculator
- Create section-specific settings by clicking the section name
- Lock sections
If administrators have assigned tests with Lock Section enabled, teachers can open sections for students from the Live Class Board.
Move Items Between Sections
After a test has been drafted and before it has been assigned, you can move items from one section to another in two ways:
-
Drag the item from one section to the next.
-
Check the box next to the item, navigate to the top right, click Move To, and select the desired section number.

Do I Have to Save Each Section When I Am Done?
No. Pear Assessment auto-saves sections: you do not need to save after creating each one.
Do I Have to Add Items to a Section Before Creating Another Section?
No. You can create all sections first and add items to each one afterward.
Do I Have to Use Already Created Items for the Sections?
No. When you go to Select Items in a section, there is an option to Create New Item, the same as when creating a test.
