Pear Assessment gives you three ways to create a test: browse the built-in library of pre-built assessments, build a test from scratch using the Item Bank, or upload a PDF using SnapQuiz.
Create a Test Using Pre-Built Assessments
- Click Tests in the navigation menu.

Set your criteria under Filters.

Review the tests returned by the filter.
- Click a test, then click Assign.
Search by keyword, filter by grade, standard, question type, item bank, difficulty, and more. Enter a keyword such as “fractions” or “Shakespeare” and search across multiple grade levels and standards. To choose a standard, click in the box. Clear your filters before each new search , previous filters carry over from the last session.
- Review the available collections: Private (questions you have created and not shared), School/District, and Public. Pear Assessment Certified questions have been validated by Pear Assessment.
Build a Test from Scratch
Building a test from scratch lets you combine existing questions from the Item Bank with original questions you author yourself.

Click Tests in the navigation menu.

Click New Test.

Click Create from Scratch.

Enter a name, brief description, subject, grade, and tags for the assessment. Tags such as “Distance Learning,” “Revolutionary War,” or “Dividing Fractions” help identify assessments by topic in search results.

Click the Add Items tab to the right of the Description tab.

Search the Item Bank for existing questions or create new items by authoring your own. Use the filters to narrow down item choices.

When you find a question you want to use, click Add on the right side of the question. A confirmation alert appears. To remove an item, click Remove.

Toggle between reviewing the assessment and adding more questions until the test is complete.
Author Items

Click Create New Item.

Click a question type under Select a Type.

Build the question in Edit Mode.

Enter or paste the question text and answer choices. Set the correct answer in the appropriate box. Click any text field to open the Text Editor toolbar for formatting options.

Scroll down to find the Solution Box and Hints options at the bottom of Edit Mode. The Solution Box explains how to answer the question for the student , not the answer itself. The Hint is optional. if added, students can click Hint while taking the assessment. Click Save, then click Preview Mode to see the question from the student’s perspective.

Click the Meta Data tab to add standards, Depth of Knowledge, and difficulty level.

Click Save.
Continue with Test Creation

Click Settings to set the parameters for the assignment.

When settings are complete, choose to share the test with colleagues or co-authors, save it as a draft, publish it to the library, or assign it immediately.
Create a Test Using SnapQuiz
SnapQuiz lets you upload a PDF assessment into Pear Assessment and add digital question overlays on top of the document image.

Click Create New Test.

Click SnapQuiz and upload a PDF version of the assignment from your computer or Google Drive.

Complete the assignment description screen, then click Worksheet to see the document image.

Click a question type (for example, Multiple Choice). A question number and editor box appear on the document.

Mark the correct answer by clicking the letter of the correct answer, adjust the point value, and click Accept. Modify letter choices if needed (for example, ABCD or EFGH). To reposition an answer box, drag the edge of the number using the drag widget. You can also add standards, search for standards, select Depth of Knowledge (DOK), and set the difficulty level.

Review and preview the assessment. Finalize the assessment by changing the name, adjusting question order, and deleting questions. Preview the assessment from the student’s perspective before publishing.

Click Publish or Assign.

The assessment saves to your private library or the school/district library until you are ready to assign it.
