Partial credit scoring allows GoGuardian Pear Assessment to award students a proportional score when they answer part of a question correctly. This is useful for question types with multiple correct elements: such as graphing questions requiring students to plot several points: where full credit or zero credit would not accurately reflect student performance. Partial credit scoring is a Premium feature. Free accounts receive all-or-nothing scoring by default.

Enable Partial Credit for an Assignment

Set the Evaluation Method in the Test Behavior tab when assigning a test.
  1. In Pear Assessment, open the Test Library and locate the test you want to assign.
  2. Hover over the test and click Quick Assign.
  3. Select the Test Behavior tab.
  4. Locate the Evaluation Method field and select the partial credit option.
  5. Complete any remaining assignment settings and click Assign.
Hovering over the Evaluation Method field displays a brief description of each scoring option.

How Partial Credit Scoring Works

When partial credit is enabled, Pear Assessment scores each question based on the proportion of correct elements a student provides. For example, if a graphing question asks a student to plot five points and the student plots four correctly, the student receives 0.80 out of 1.00 for that question instead of a score of zero.

Award Partial Credit Manually

You can also award partial credit after a student submits an assignment, without changing the assignment’s Evaluation Method setting.
  • Express Grader (Premium and Enterprise): Enter a custom score for any question directly in the Express Grader.
  • Live Class Board (all accounts): Click into a student’s answer and edit the score or add feedback.
For step-by-step instructions, see Manually Enter or Edit Grades.
