Kiosk mode turns a shared classroom or office device into a dedicated GoGuardian Hall Pass station. Pass activity in kiosk mode is scoped to a single location, so staff and students always see requests for the right room.

Before You Begin

You must set a PIN for your account before you can enable kiosk mode. If you haven’t set one yet, GoGuardian Hall Pass will prompt you on the Kiosk Mode screen.

Set Your PIN

  1. Open GoGuardian Hall Pass and select the account menu in the top right.
  2. Select Kiosk Mode.
  3. If no PIN is set for your account, a message appears: “You must set a PIN for your account to enable kiosk mode.” Select Set PIN and follow the prompts.

Create a Kiosk Sign-In

A kiosk sign-in is tied to one kiosk location. Passes shown in kiosk mode are scoped to that location.
  1. Open GoGuardian Hall Pass and select the account menu.
  2. Select Kiosk Mode.
  3. Select a location from Select Kiosk Location.
  4. If credentials already exist for that location, the Kiosk Login panel shows the username and password you can use. If no credentials exist, select Create Kiosk Login to generate them. GoGuardian Hall Pass shows the kiosk URL, username, password, and a QR code the kiosk device can scan to sign in quickly.

Choose Student Sign-In Method

Select the method that matches your site’s setup. This determines how students identify themselves when requesting a pass.

Sign In to Kiosk Mode on a Shared Device

Use the device students will use to request passes.
  1. On the shared device, go to the kiosk URL shown on the Kiosk Login panel.
  2. Enter the Kiosk Username and Kiosk Password, or scan the QR code with the shared device.
  3. Choose a student sign-in method.
  4. Click Login to Kiosk.

Request a Pass in Kiosk Mode

Students can request passes from the kiosk location. Site rules, approvals, pass limits, capacity limits, and time restrictions still apply.
  1. Click Request Pass.
  2. If student sign-in is required, the student signs in using the method selected for the kiosk session.
  3. Complete the pass request details.
  4. Click Request Pass. If the pass meets all site rules, it becomes active. If the pass needs approval or is blocked by a rule, GoGuardian Hall Pass shows the pass status.

View Passes in Kiosk Mode

The Active Passes section shows current passes related to the kiosk location — passes where the kiosk location is the origin or destination.
  1. Find the pass under Home > Active Passes.
  2. Click the pass card.
  3. If prompted, ask the student to sign in.
  4. Click Use Staff PIN when staff authorization is needed to view or act on the pass.

Start the Kiosk

Select Start Kiosk. GoGuardian Hall Pass switches to kiosk mode and scopes all pass activity to the selected location.

Exit Kiosk Mode

To return to the standard Hall Pass view:
  1. Select the account menu.
  2. Select Exit Kiosk Mode.
  3. Verify the result: GoGuardian Hall Pass returns to the standard view and displays your full pass activity for the site.

Revoke Kiosk Access

Revoking a kiosk login immediately ends all active kiosk sessions for that location.
  1. Open GoGuardian Hall Pass and select the account menu.
  2. Select Kiosk Mode.
  3. Select the kiosk location.
  4. Select Revoke the Credential.
  5. In the confirmation dialog, select Revoke Login. GoGuardian Hall Pass removes access for that location and signs out all existing kiosk sessions.

Troubleshoot Kiosk Mode

The Kiosk Won’t Load or Sign In

  1. Confirm the shared device is going to the kiosk URL shown on the Kiosk Login panel, not a general Hall Pass page.
  2. Re-enter the Kiosk Username and Kiosk Password exactly as shown, or scan the QR code instead of typing.
  3. If the QR code returns an error, reload the Kiosk Login panel to generate a new one — codes are valid only for a short period.
  4. Check the device’s network connection and confirm it’s running a current browser. Kiosk mode can also run as an installed app; see Set Up PWA Kiosk Mode.

A QR Code Won’t Scan

  • The code expired. Kiosk QR codes are valid only briefly. Reload the Kiosk Login panel to generate a fresh code.
  • The camera can’t read it. Confirm the scanning device has camera permission enabled, and that the code is displayed or printed clearly. For printed student badges, see QR Codes and Badges.

Students Can’t Check In

  1. Confirm the student sign-in method matches your site’s data. Student Badge and Student ID require IDs synced through Clever or ClassLink; Student Name requires the student to be on the site roster.
  2. If the roster is incomplete, the student may not be mapped to this site. See Troubleshoot Hall Pass Users, Roles, and Sync.
  3. Remember that site rules still apply — approvals, capacity limits, pass limits, and time restrictions can block a request even when sign-in works.

Reset or Reconfigure a Kiosk

To move a kiosk to a new location or issue fresh credentials, revoke the existing kiosk login (which ends all active sessions for that location), then create a new kiosk sign-in for the correct location. See Revoke Kiosk Access and Create a Kiosk Sign-In.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why are passes missing from kiosk mode? Kiosk mode only shows passes related to the selected kiosk location. Confirm the shared device is signed in to the correct room, office, or staff location. Can kiosk mode bypass approvals or pass limits? No. Kiosk mode follows the same Hall Pass rules as other pass workflows, including approvals, capacity limits, pass limits, and time restrictions. Why do staff need a PIN? A staff PIN lets GoGuardian Hall Pass record staff-authorized actions from a shared device. Staff must set a PIN before creating or managing kiosk access. Which student sign-in option should my school choose? Choose the method your site uses for student identity. Students can select their name, scan a printed Hall Pass badge, or enter their student ID. What happens when I revoke a kiosk sign-in? GoGuardian Hall Pass revokes access for that kiosk location and signs out all existing kiosk sessions tied to that credential. What are common issues to watch for?
  • Wrong kiosk location means passes are missing: Kiosk mode is scoped to the selected location. If the pass list looks wrong, confirm the kiosk is set to the correct room or office.
  • PIN required: Enabling or managing kiosk mode requires a staff PIN. Staff should set their PIN before the first use.
  • Kiosk mode does not bypass site rules: Capacity limits, pass limits, and approvals can still block passes.
  • Shared device accountability: Decide whether your school wants kiosk actions attributed to students or staff via PIN, and train accordingly.
