Use the Screen Time feature in GoGuardian Admin to review how long students spend on websites across different contexts: during teacher sessions, outside sessions, in school, and outside school.

View Screen Time on the Dashboard

The main dashboard provides a high-level summary of district screen time across all context types.
  1. Open GoGuardian Admin, which opens the Dashboard page.
  2. Locate the Screen Time card in the lower-right section of the dashboard. It displays:
    • Total screen time
    • Screen time in-session and out-of-session
    • Screen time in-school and out-of-school
  3. Click View Screen Time Report at the bottom of the card to open the full reporting view.

Analyze Screen Time Reports

The Screen Time reporting page breaks down web activity by context. Use date filters and report tabs to isolate specific data views.
  1. In GoGuardian Admin, click Screen Time in the navigation menu.
  2. Select a date range using the calendar filter dropdown in the upper-right corner.
  3. Click a tab to view data by category:
    • OUs: Web engagement sorted by organizational unit. Columns include:
      • In Teacher Session: Duration students spent browsing websites during active classroom sessions
      • Outside Teacher Session: Duration students spent browsing websites outside active classroom sessions
      • In School: Duration students spent browsing websites during scheduled hours
      • Outside School: Duration students spent browsing websites outside scheduled hours
      • Total Time: Combined web activity across all locations
    • Categories: Time students spent on websites grouped by content category
    • Classrooms: Total screen time by classroom
    • Apps: Application usage data provided by GoGuardian Discover

Check Individual Student Screen Time Data

Administrators can review daily web usage for a specific student. The student-level view shows the same metrics as the district report, broken down by day.
  1. In GoGuardian Admin, click All Students in the navigation menu, or search for the student’s name in the toolbar at the top of the page.
  2. Click on the student’s name.
  3. Click the Screen Time tab on the student’s profile. The tab displays the following metrics for each day:
    • In Teacher Session: Duration the student spent browsing websites during active classroom sessions
    • Outside Teacher Session: Duration the student spent browsing websites outside active classroom sessions
    • In School: Duration the student spent browsing websites during scheduled hours
    • Outside School: Duration the student spent browsing websites outside scheduled hours
    • Total Time: Combined web activity for that day

Export Screen Time Data

Screen Time data can be exported as a CSV file for record-keeping or compliance reporting.
  1. In GoGuardian Admin, click All Students in the navigation menu, or search for the student’s name in the toolbar.
  2. Click Export in the upper-right corner of the page.
  3. Enter a name for the file in the Report Title field.
  4. Click Start Export to begin generating the report. The report may take a few minutes to generate and will appear on the Exported Reports page. You can navigate away from the page while the report processes.

FAQ

Where can I find application usage and active licensing data? App data is managed separately within GoGuardian Discover. Open Discover from the app switcher at the top of the navigation menu. Why does a student’s total time not match the sum of school hours and teacher sessions? Total time combines all web activity across both in-school and out-of-school hours, including independent browsing. Some sessions may overlap, or activity may occur outside scheduled school hours.
