Pear Assessment uses role-based access to control what users can see and do. Each account belongs to one of five roles: District Admin, School Admin, Teacher, Co-Teacher, or Student. Role assignments determine which features, data, and settings a user can access.

District Admin

District Admins have the broadest permissions in Pear Assessment. They manage the district’s configuration and all user accounts within it. District Admins can:
  • Create and manage District Admin, School Admin, Teacher, and Student accounts
  • Access district-wide assessment data and insights
  • Configure district settings and integrations
  • Enable or disable features for the district
  • Assign the Super Admin permission to other District Admin accounts
Super Admin is an elevated District Admin permission. Only Super Admins can access district or school settings. If you need Super Admin access, contact your current Super Admin or your GoGuardian point of contact. Insights-Only is a restricted District Admin permission. Insights-Only users can view assessment and insights data for the district but cannot access user information, assignments, or district settings.

School Admin

School Admins manage users and settings within their assigned school. Their permissions are scoped to the school level. School Admins can:
  • Create and manage School Admin, Teacher, and Student accounts within their school
  • Access school-level assessment data and insights
  • Configure school settings
School Admins cannot create District Admin accounts. Contact your District Admin to make district-level account changes.

Teacher

Teachers create and manage classes, build and assign assessments, and review student performance data. Teachers can:
  • Create and manage classes
  • Build, assign, and grade assessments
  • View student results and performance data
  • Access class-level insights and standards reports
  • Proxy into student accounts to verify assigned tests
Teachers do not have access to district or school settings. A teacher who also serves in an administrative capacity (for example, a team lead or instructional coach) needs a separate admin account. Use the Add Account and Switch Roles feature to manage multiple roles from one sign-in.

Co-Teacher

Co-Teachers share access to a class owned by another teacher. This role is useful for co-teaching arrangements, instructional coaches observing a class, or department leads reviewing data. Co-Teachers can:
  • View and interact with classes they have been added to
  • View student results for those classes
  • Assign and manage assessments within shared classes
Co-Teachers cannot create classes independently. A Teacher or Admin must add them to an existing class.

Student

Students take assigned assessments and view their own results. Students can:
  • Access and submit assigned tests
  • View their own scores and feedback when released by the teacher
Students do not have access to class management, assessment creation, or any administrative settings.

Switch Between Roles

A single sign-in can hold multiple roles. For example, a teacher who is also a school admin can add both accounts and switch between them without logging out. See Add Account and Switch Roles for step-by-step instructions.
