The Rationale tab inside a GoGuardian Beacon alert card displays the evidence Beacon analyzed when generating the alert. This gives counselors and staff visibility into how Beacon’s model reached its decision. The Rationale tab contains two sections: Screenshots and Words on the Page.
A screenshot associated with an alert may not always show content visually related to self-harm or suicide. Many websites include additional text that falls outside the visible bounds of a screenshot. The Words on the Page section captures that text.

Review Screenshots in Alerts

Beacon captures screenshots of a student’s browsing activity from 15 minutes before and after the alert is generated. Each screenshot has a corresponding timestamp. The screenshot from the source of the alert is highlighted in yellow and displayed in the center of the list. Use the arrows on either side to scroll through screenshots. Click any individual screenshot to enlarge it.

Review Words on the Page

The Words on the Page section displays all text found on the page that Beacon analyzed. Terms associated with the detected phase are highlighted. This section is useful when a screenshot does not clearly show the content that triggered the alert. A PDF of the Words on the Page content can be downloaded by clicking Download As PDF.
