Proficiency bands allow district administrators to classify students based on their assessment performance. Pear Assessment assigns proficiency bands to users using cut-scores. The bands and default cut scores are defined at the district level so performance can be easily compared across assessments, grades, or school years. Set your district’s bands in Manage District > Settings > Standards Proficiency.
Set District-Wide Standards Proficiency Bands

Set Proficiency Bands as District Administrator
- Navigate to Manage District.
- Click Settings.
- Click Standards Proficiency.
Mastery Calculation
Levels Can Be Calculated Using Several Methods:
- Most Recent: Displays the most recent assessment’s mastery
- Max Score: Highest score
- Mode Score: Most-common score
- Simple Average: Average of all assessments equally weighted
- Decaying Average: Weighs the most recent score set by the administrator
- Moving Average: Identifies trends over a number of assessments set by the administrator
- Power Law: Allows the administrator to identify proportional correlation between two sets of scores
