Use this article when a bubble sheet does not match the assessment, will not scan cleanly, or fails during upload. Start with the symptom you see.

Check the Assignment Status

Bubble sheets upload only while the assignment accepts responses. If the assignment status is In Grading or Done, redirect it before uploading.
  1. Select the Assignments tab in the navigation menu.
  2. Click Live Class Board for the assignment.
  3. To redirect the entire class, click Redirect. To redirect specific students, select the checkbox next to each student’s name, then click Redirect.
  4. Select your preferred settings for Questions Delivery, Show Previous Attempt, Close Date, and Change Dynamic Parameter Values, then click Redirect.
  5. Return to the assignment and upload the bubble sheets.
  6. Verify the result: The upload option is available, and Pear Assessment accepts the sheets.
Redirect creates another attempt. Pear Assessment uses the most recent attempt for scores and reports. Review each attempt in Live Class Board if you need to see an earlier response.
Redirect is part of the Enterprise package, and administrators can disable it. If the Redirect button is grayed out, the feature is unavailable on your plan or has been turned off. Contact your administrator to request access.

Check for Missing or Mismatched Questions

Bubble sheets reflect the assessment structure at the time you generate them. If you change the assessment afterward, generate new sheets before students use them. Some question structures do not map to a separate bubble. If eligible questions are missing from a printed sheet:
  1. Open the source assessment and find the missing items.
  2. Confirm whether the missing responses are separate questions or parts of a multipart item.
  3. If a response needs its own bubble, create it as a standalone item instead of a part of a multipart item.
  4. Print new bubble sheets and distribute them before students test.
If you’re a Co-Teacher on the class, you may not be able to edit the source assessment yourself. Contact the assessment’s owner, or clone the assessment to create your own editable copy. See Roles and Permissions and Clone Tests.

Fix Sheets That Fail During Upload

Check each item before uploading again:
  • Upload sheets for 1 class and 1 assignment at a time.
  • Keep the assignment open for responses (see Check the Assignment Status above).
  • Use clear, complete images that show the full sheet.
  • Place sheets on a flat, well-lit surface, and avoid shadows.
  • Remove any page that belongs to a different assignment or class from the batch.
  • Keep the upload page open until Pear Assessment confirms processing is complete.
If the batch still fails, upload 1 sheet by itself. A successful single-sheet upload means another page in the original batch is unreadable or belongs to a different assignment.

Fix Answers That Are Not Read Correctly

Rescan the sheet when:
  • Bubbles are faint, incomplete, or contain more than one mark.
  • The page is wrinkled, tilted, cropped, or shadowed.
  • The identifying barcode is missing or unclear.
  • The image resolution is too low for marks to read reliably. See Generate Bubble Sheets for the recommended scanning setup.
After upload, review the student’s response. If the paper answer is clear but Pear Assessment read it incorrectly, adjust the score manually.

Restore a Removed Class or Assignment

What you can do next depends on whether a class or an assignment was removed. If a class was archived: Archived classes are not deleted. Open Archived Classes to restore the class, then upload the bubble sheets to the restored class. See Archive Class. If an assignment was deleted: Deleting an assignment permanently removes it and its student data. Do not generate replacement sheets for a different assignment. The printed sheets are tied to the original assignment record. Contact Customer Support for additional help if your assignment was fully deleted.

Check Why the Bubble Sheet Option Is Missing

  1. Open assessment.peardeck.com.
  2. Open your account menu and confirm the email address shown matches the account you expect to be signed in with.
  3. If it doesn’t match, sign out and sign back in with the correct account.
If the option was available recently and is now missing on the correct account, ask a district administrator to check the organization’s subscription and your account assignment. See Troubleshoot Missing Premium Features in Pear Assessment.

Contact Support

If the issue continues after the steps above, contact Pear Assessment support at support@assessment.peardeck.com. Include the assignment name, the class name, the exact error message, the number of sheets in the batch, and whether a single-sheet upload also fails. Do not include student responses or other identifiable student information unless Support requests it through an approved support channel.
